The Geysers of Yellowstone

On this post, come along with me as I reminisce about our recent trip to
Yellowstone National Park!
I hope you enjoy a few photos of the geyser areas in the park.

"There's one!" my daughter excitedly points out.

We stand with others, waiting and watching for it to go off.
Just as we are giving up and going back up the walk way,
it becomes active again.
We grab our cameras and click away!

We chased down many steam puffs,
stopping at nearly every pull away where we saw them.

Some were rather distant,
...while some were close enough that we had to protect
our cameras from the spray of the water.

This place was incredibly beautiful.
Although there was no geyser,
the water and the reflections were awesome.
It was called the Grand Prismatic Spring.

From there we went on to see the most famous geyser,
and waited impatiently for "Old Faithful" to show her stuff.

Thousands lined the boardwalk watching and waiting with us.

This little chipmunk was right in front of us,
and appeared to be standing on tip-toes,
waiting for the show, also!

And of course,
Old Faithful did not disappoint us!
Although literature stated she is not as predictable as she once was,
and that she does not always rise to the heights that she once did,
she was still magnificent!

Did you notice that dark cloud in the corner of the photo?
Well, just as Old Faithful was settling down,
rain began to pelt us,
...And then, not only rain, but a hail storm!
What a grand finale!
I identified with a little boy I had heard shout out
after watching
lightning light up the sky
 following a fireworks display,

"Good show, Jesus!"
Truly, it was a great show,
and the hailstorm finale made us smile!

Like me, everyone was scrambling to protect their cameras,
and running for shelter.
Otherwise I would have a shot of that hailstorm on here as well!

I hope you enjoyed the tour!

Unusual Hummingbird Feeder and Nectar

When we went to the farm this weekend,
I was disappointed to find my hummingbird feeder broken.

My creative sister-in-law left me a large bottle
to try in its place.
A bungy cord worked nicely to secure it.

Since I didn't have any nectar prepared,
I decided to improvise...
Yes, that blue color is partly "GatorAde"!
The male ruby throat came first and checked it out.

Then the female came and analyzed the new set up.

The male was the first to try the new contraption with the unusual fluid.

"Here goes!" the female seemed to be saying.

"Awwwwhhh, good stuff!  No wonder those humans drink it!"

I just love to watch these beautiful little creatures.

Waterfalls in Yellowstone National Park

One of the things I greatly enjoyed on our recent trip
to Yellowstone National Park was the waterfalls.

Although there were quite a few falls,
in the rest of this post I'm going to feature the largest one we saw.
It involved a little hiking to get to the top of the falls.

The trail was quite steep,
zig-zagging back and forth,
with bench "rest stops" for those of us who needed them.

Going down wasn't so bad;
it was the uphill climb going back that was more challenging!

This was looking down on the top of the falls.

The view was quite amazing,
and the roaring sound of the rushing water
was so loud that it was hard to carry on a conversation.

Mist boiled up from the thunderous downpour...

...creating a rainbow at times.
Can you spot it?

The grandeur of the falls brought to mind a song that my momma loved.
George Beverly Shea made it very popular on Billy Graham's Hour of Decision program.
You've probably already guessed it, haven't you?
It's the song "How Great Thou Art".

Here's a little later rendition of that song:

The Magnificent Colors of Yellowstone National Park

The photos featured today were taken in the
"Paint Pot" portion of Yellowstone National Park.

Don't let the beautiful blue of this pool fool you into wanting to
enjoy a steamy hot springs bath!
The Yellowstone guide told a sad story of an owner
who not only lost his dog,
but lost his own life trying to save the dog.
The temperatures of these pools are scalding hot!

This must be where Yellowstone gets its name!
Aren't the colors magnificent?!!!

I found it interesting that the colors were caused by a bacteria.

In the next few weeks I'll be featuring the flowers of Yellowstone,
the waterfalls, the animals,
...and, of course, the geysers!
I hope you'll enjoy the posts!

Day Lilies

If you think this post is a little late this week,
YOU ARE RIGHT!
The reason?
We were gone on vacation!
I came back to my day lilies in full bloom,
and thought I'd share them with you!
