Hungry Butterfly

Butterfly searching for breakfast in my zinnia patch!

"The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.

You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing...

The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."

River Trees

The Buffalo National River area is one of my favorite places.  I am so fortunate to live close enough to visit it often.  My husband and I both grew up close to this river; we learned to swim in it before it became a national treasure, and have capsized canoes in it more than once!

As much as I delight in the beauty of this river,
it can never satisfy me like a trip into the Word of God!

Speaking of those who delight in the Word of God, the Psalmist said,
"They are like trees planted along the riverbank,  bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do."
 Psalm 1:3

And similarly Jeremiah wrote,
"They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.
Jeremiah 17:8

"Twitterpated" Crows!

These two crows put on quite a scene for me.
As they say in the movie "Bambi", I think they were quite "twitterpated"!

I thought I remembered a verse something about birds
not lacking a mate, so looked it up in Blue Letter Bible,
and found the verse below from Isaiah 34:16.

"Search the book of the LORD, and see what he will do.
Not one of these birds and animals will be missing,
and none will lack a mate,
for the LORD has promised this. His Spirit will make it all come true."

Water drops

"Rejoice in the LORD your God;  For He has given you the former rain faithfully, And He will cause the rain to come down for you..."   Joel 2:23

I don't know about you all, but we could use a little rain!

The Daughters of Zelophehad

Have you ever heard of Zelophehad?
He was a man who lived in Moses' day.
He had 5 daughters and no sons.

This morning as I was reading from Numbers 27:1-11,
the bravery of these five daughters of Zelophehad stood out to me.

In an unprecedented act of courage,
they went before Moses and the other leaders of Israel.
They protested the unfairness of a legal requirement
that favored sons rather than daughters.
They not only protested;
they asked for the law to be changed!

Because of their bravery,
a new edict was given -
when a man had no sons,
his daughters now had a right to their father's inheritance.

What act of bravery might God call on me to do today?

My Song vs. The Song of the Mockingbird...

We have a mockingbird...

...or maybe a family of mockingbirds!

They serenade us with their songs in the morning...

...and often sing loudly in the middle of the night.

They seem to do a lot of their singing on nearby signs -
often messing on them, too!
(If you can't see the "mess", click on picture to enlarge!)

So I've been doing some thinking about them;
although they sing delightful and varied melodies,
they have NO SONG OF THEIR OWN.

I don't want to be like that.
I want to have my own song -
even if it's just a song in my heart.

God says in Psalm 40:3 that He will
"put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD."

If I get a new song today,
I'll know its' from God;
because I'm not much of a song writer!

Has God put a new song in your heart today?
