Miracles Still Happen!

Last week when we got a call that my nephew Joel was not doing well
and had been placed in Hospice Home Care,
we hurriedly got on line to change our airline tickets to Fresno to an earlier date.

A miraculous change in Joel's health occurred while we were there!
Click on the link below to hear it from Joel!

But that wasn't the only miracle!
Leaving Fresno turned out to be a bit of a problem,
because all planes were grounded both in and out of Phoenix
due to storms.
Further delays occurred when we reached Phoenix due to a flat tire on the airplane.
By this time, we were beginning to get a bit anxious about making our third connection
from Dallas to Springfield, MO.
...And sure enough...  Not only did we miss our flight,
there were no flights available until 5:30 pm the next day,
and NO RENTAL CARS AVAILABLE EITHER!
Although it was nearing midnight,
my daughter and my husband were adamant about the need to return home
that night because of business necessities the next day.
As I sat in a wheelchair in the terminal with luggage piled high on top of my lap,
I silently reminded myself of the faithfulness of God in past circumstances,
and asked Him to please help us in this dilemma.
I boldly asked Him not only for an angel to help us,
but for a roomy, comfortable SUV type vehicle that we could drive home that night!

How do you like this for an answer?!!!
Jehovah Jireh - My Provider

A National Car Rental agent had mercy on us,
and stated since we were going north,
we could take this car.

This is the sign that was written on the window.
(The tree and sky are reflections on the glass.)

I had to smile when I looked at the license plate...
Yes, it was from up North alright!
...The country of my birth!

Yes, once again God had shown us that
"Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save,
nor is His ear too dull to hear."

Shut In with God

"Then the LORD shut him in"

In obedience, Noah built an ark.
Can you believe, it took him 120 years to build it?
Obviously they lived a lot longer back then!

But the part that stood out to me was that when the LORD shut him in,
he was stuck in that ark with all those animals for over a year!

Sometimes God shuts us in - like today, with snow and ice.
Other times, it's with a broken bone, a tragedy, an illness or a bad diagnosis.

How do I handle those times of being "shut in"?

I hope that I will use them to bring me closer to God like Jeremiah, who says:
"I will never forget this awful time,
as I grieve over my loss.
Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:
The faithful love of the LORD never ends!
His mercies never cease.
Great is His faithfulness;
His mercies begin afresh each morning...
I will hope in Him!
The LORD is good to those who depend on Him,
to those who search for Him...
For no one is abandoned by the LORD forever.
Though He brings grief,
He also shows compassion
because of the greatness of His unfailing love."

If you, like me, are "shut in" today, no matter what the cause,
may you "find rest for your soul"!

Wierd, Wacky, and Wonderful Instruments!

On today's Joy4Today, I want to feature the unusual musical instruments
that are the invention of my brother-in-law, Lorne Collie.
He takes anything, ...and I do mean ANYTHING,
...and can turn it into a musical instrument!
Here are a few examples:

Here he is with one of his cookie tin creations.
I think this is a moose antler.  Quite unique, eh?!!

This is his ax/pick creation.
The violin duet:
Helen's instrument made out of an ice scraper
and Lorne's made from a "peace pipe"

This duo has been making music in spite of some trying circumstances.
In 1985, my sister Helen was diagnosed with breast cancer,
and underwent a radical mastectomy.
She said 1986 was her toughest year in that battle.
She told me that one of the things that she credits her success
in this battle, along with her faith in God, was maintaining a positive attitude,
and surrounding herself with cheerful, encouraging people.

The stop sign guitar!

The snow show instrument.

And one of Lorne's favorites, the snow shovel electric guitar.

Lorne has his own story of healing as well.
In 1988 he suffered a brain aneurysm and was in a coma
for an extended period of time.
It was after he recovered that he began making all these unusual instruments.
I asked him if God appeared to him and gave him these ideas
while he was unconscious.
His reply made me laugh.
"No," he said, "I just had a lot of time to think.
My brain never stopped working even though I couldn't respond outwardly."

HOPE, that's what it's all about.

I hope this encourages you not to give up if you are going through tough times.
The Bible says that "with God all things are possible."
