Nesting Eagle

A few weeks ago, as my friend T.J. and I were going
for a short hike on David's Trail along Norfork Lake,
we saw this giant nest in a tree.
At that time there did not appear to be any action
in it, and my friend thought it might be a large squirrel nest.
I didn't have my good camera with the zoom lens,
so could not get a good shot.
I wasn't sure it was an eagle's nest,
...but I knew that this one was a squirrel nest,
because I had seen squirrels come and go from it when
they were raiding the sunflower seeds from my bird feeder!

This time as we began the descent down the hill toward the lake,
there was no mistaking the white head of a bald eagle
moving around in her nest

My husband took me back with my good camera
so I could zoom in for a better shot.
Although we waited around for some time,
she never flew off her nest.

There's some tremendous verses in the Bible about eagles,
but I guess my favorite is from Isaiah 40:31:
"...those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint."

Thanks for your visit.

This has always been my husband's favorite scripture.

I have been trying to two years to get a great shot of an Eagle.

It is exciting! Amazing how big their nests are--and they need to be because the juniors have a big wing span.

I read that eagles keep adding to their nests each year, and that some nests have been known to weigh close to 1000 pounds!!!

Oooh, lucky you! I've only ever seen an eagle in the wild a few times, and never when I've got a camera with me.

They are amazing birds aren't they! And such huge nest! Last weekend I got to see my first eagle nest and will be posting about this very soon. It was an awesome experience and we spent a few hours watching as the two juveniles exercised their wings getting ready to fledge.

What a great find!
These are such magnificent creatures, it seems so special to find a nest and if you're really lucky, to watch them raise a new generation.

Nice post!

What fabulous shots! I hope you'll be able to see (and share!) as she readies herself and then raises her babes.

How interesting! I have never seen an eagle or even an eagle's nest. We do have them here but only a few.

nest making is such an art; I'm always astounded by that complexity, even in the tiniest nests, like the one I found under the gas tank lid...

This is a favorite scripture of mine as well. What a great capture of that majestic bird with its head peeking out of the nest.

So cool.

Great shot! One of the few interesting things I learned this weekend was that both sexes incubate. That could be he or she!

Nice eagle nest, Emma. Did you see the father hanging around some place? Hatching and raising the brood is a family affair. But mother must lay some eggs first.

My eagle family has built a new nest for this year. They may have objected to the web cam. Google "Decorah Eagles."
