Just random stuff...

My search for the bird that was making such loud threatening noises
ended yesterday when I found this little guy.
I guess he or she must have a nest near my back deck,
because the noise starts up every time I let my dog out in the back yard.
I believe it's a wren,
but I surely didn't know they could make a raucous noise like that.
...A grackle or blackbird maybe, but surely not a wren!

I have another little wren, and she sings all the time...even when she's sitting on her nest in the small birdhouse in my apple tree.
She looks much smaller in size than the one in my back yard,
and she doesn't seem to mind having me nearby.

This little bird perched on my feeder,
on and off for several days.
I think he (or she!) is either sick or blind,
...or maybe both.
I believe it's a female house finch,
but I'm not sure.
I was concerned she might have "bird flu"...

In my Rock4Today post this week,
I mentioned God as our Provider.
He says if He takes care of the birds of the air,
surely He will take care of us.
When I'm having a tough day,
I need to remember that!

Great photos of the wren. It is a House Finch and it likely has conjunctivitis, a common disease with House Finches. Heres is some more info on conjunctivitis: http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/science-stories/past-stories/house-finch-disease/

That bird does not look well. Wrens can make a lot of noise, but its normally musical in my experience.

Cheers - and thanks for linking to WBW - Stewart M - Melbourne

How sweet that she sings while on the nest. I love wrens even more now.

I just posted about a blind finch I have too. It has been around for several weeks - so surprised it can find food to eat. I think the grackles poked it's eyes out, as I've seen them kill other finches at the bird feeders. I have feeders just for finches that the grackles can't get to, but finches go to the other feeders too and grackles do not like to share!
